3rd NARENDRA SHARMA FESTIVAL OF DANCE
Celebrating & showcasing new choreography
Feb. 14-17, 2012 at 7 PM
Sri Ram Center for Arts & Culture, New Delhi
After the demise of renowned choreographer Narendra Sharma, founder director of Bhoomika, in January 2008, a decision was taken by members of the organization to hold an annual festival of choreography in New Delhi as a tribute to his memory. On his 85th birth anniversary in 2009, a two-day festival was held at Habitat Center. A second 3-day festival was organized from March 11-13, 2011 with new choreographic works by Bharat Sharma, Tripura Kashyap, Deepti Gupta with Bhoomika’s dancers, and Sangeeta Sharma’s Anveshna Dance Theatre Company, Santosh Nair’s Sadhya Dance Group, and Expressions Modern Dance Company from Mumbai led by Sumeet Nagdev.
Bhoomika, a premiere organization in performing arts, and Indian Impresario, a new initiative to promote the performing arts & media, now join hand to announce IIIrd Narendra Sharma Festival of Dance 2012 with an exciting array of nationally and internationally acclaimed choreographers, dancers and artists to be held at Sri Ram Centre for Arts & Culture, Mandi House, New Delhi from February 14 to 17, 2012 at 7 PM.
This year renowned choreographers are coming to showcase old and new works. Internationally acclaimed artists like Tanusree Shankar, Astad Deboo, Sheela Raj and Bharat Sharma with groups will share evenings with exciting choreography by Santosh Nair, Sumeet Nagdev, Sangeeta Sharma and Tripura Kashyap. DanceWorx, a popular dance school from Delhi, is also presenting their dances on opening night.
With an emphasis on choreographers and their unique dance languages, the festival also showcases dancers that have been trained in several styles, national and international, including classical styles. However, choreographers choose not to focus on any particular style while interpreting a theme or abstract idea, but display their respective artistic vocabularies and craft that each one has developed. This represents the diversity of expressions within the field and contains elements of the traditional, the modern, the popular and the artistic.
Performances will be open to all through invitations that could be collected a week before the festival. Attached is the programme and website addresses of participating artists. For further information contact: 9560184340
