How does today’s choreographer of Indian classical dance engage with the concepts, ideas and grammar of dance.
Texts such as the Natyashastra include codifications and prescriptions which we learn as students and pass on to younger generations of dancers. How relevant are these to the creative process? How are these concepts, for example rasa and bhava, produced in that moment of performance on stage?
The Ananya festival is a festival of classical Indian dance.How do we define ‘classical’? Who is the performance intended for? While creating the work for the evening performance, does one need to keep the audience in mind?
