DATES & CORRESPONDING DANCE WORKSHOP:

A) Sunday, 31st Jan, 2010: QUICKSTEP

Much like a faster version of the Foxtrot, the Quickstep is an International Ballroom Dance style composed of hops, runs, quick steps with a lot of momentum, rotation and syncopated feet rhythms in time to fast-paced music.
The Quickstep evolved in the 1920’s in England from a combination of the Foxtrot, Charleston, Shag, Peabody and One Step. As it was developed to ragtime-era jazz music, which is fast-paced when compared to other dance music, the tempo of Quickstep is rather brisk. Accordingly, it is a very energetic dance. While dancing, a couple appears to be so light on their feet that they barely touch the ground.

Elegant, smooth & glamorous, the Quickstep is both a pleasure to watch & dance !

B) Sunday, 7th Feb, 2010: LINE DANCING

Line dancing is exactly what its name implies: people dancing in lines to music. These are choreographed dances with a repeating series of steps that are performed in unison by a group of people in lines or rows. Most definitely uncommon in our country, line dancing is practiced in country and western dance bars, social clubs and dance halls around the world.
Because its steps are simple and don’t involve dancing with a partner, line dancing is ideal for singles and non-dancers.

C) Sunday, 14th Feb, 2010: BOLERO

Considered by many to be the epitome of passion and romance, Bolero is a Latin dance that stir the blood and excite the senses. The body rises, falls, sweeps and stretches gracefully, as if painting a portrait with determined movement.
Having originated in Spain in the 1700’s, it traveled across the pond to Cuba and then to America & is still a favorite amongst dance lovers everywhere because of its slow, dreamy tempo and beautiful melodies.

If you have passion in your soul and you want to impress an audience, there are few dances as evocative as the Bolero.

D) Sunday, 21st Feb, 2010: VIENNESE WALTZ

The Viennese Waltz is the classic, original Waltz which is much faster-paced than the more common English or slow Waltz. It is characterized by sweeping turns & rotation that enable a couple to move gracefully around the floor.
Although Viennese Waltz music was almost always instrumental as with other dances that originated in the Romantic Era in Vienna, it is today danced to different kinds of music that maybe instrumental, vocal, classical, country or popular Top 40 hits.

Often featured in old Hollywood films, as danced in glamorous balls in European palaces, the elegance and charm of the Viennese Waltz reminds us of a time that was.
