Parwati Dutta, a versatile Kathak and Odissi danseuse, Guru and researcher is known worldwide as one the finest thinker-artists. A senior disciple of Pt. Birju Maharaj (Kathak), Madhavi Mudgal and Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra (Odissi), she had the good fortune to be guided by many great artists and scholars. Blessed with a graceful bearing and command on technical virtuosity, bhaava and taal, Parwati’s performances have been greatly appreciated by the connoisseurs within and outside the country. Parwati’s dance displays a fine classicism of expression that stems from her rigorous training and profound understanding of the tradition and many related concepts of the Indian art through her study, analysis and close proximity with scholars and Gurus. She is recipient of Devdasi National Award, Shringarmani and Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Natya Parishad Award.

Mr. Ronu, needs no introduction to music lovers all over the globe. By virtue of his phenomenal talent, he and the Bansuri are literally synonymous. If the flute is likened to a temple, Pt. Ronu Majumdar would be its foremost worshipper. Ranendranath Majumdar, popularly known as Ronu Majumdar is a force to reckon with in the realm of Indian classical music both as a thinking musician and scintillating performer. Ronu Majumdar began playing the flute under the guidance of his father Dr. Bhanu Majumdar, late Pt. Lakshman Prasad Jaipurwale and finally the revered Pt. Vijay Raghav Rao. He was also fortunate to receive training from his grand guru Pt. Ravi Shankar. A powerhouse performer, Ronu Majumdar is firmly rooted in the Maihar gharana which has also given shape to sturdy musical oaks like Pt. Ravi Shankar and Ustad Ali Akbar Khan.

THE DANCING CANVAS / THE RAINBOW OF DANCE

Life is like a canvas of colors, a canvas of emotions, a canvas of rhythm and movement. Chase entertainment presents 7 different dance styles represents rainbow indian, folk and western which will dazzle not only the dance stage but also audiences minds and hearts.

Dance evolved years back as a mode of expression through movements. One traces down the roots of Indian dance to the Apsaras and Devdasis as a mode of entertainment and grace.

At a later stage, in the age of music and rhythm, dance was then developed as a studied form of movement, enhancing music.

Kathak was the origin of Indian classical dance in the northern part of India and simultaneously in the southern part, originated Bharatnatyam.

India being a country of various religions and languages concocting to form a singular and vibrant pallet of colors, with its variegated and colorful cultures, adopted dance in their lifestyle and celebrations. These folk and tribal dances developed adapting the techniques of classical dance and created their own styles. potraj is a tribal folk dance wherein the dance is expressed through hitting oneself. Imbibing these various dance forms, the Indian film industry evolved a new dance style that can be described as a pot pouri of dances, popularly known as bollywood.

Towards the west ballet is considered as the origin of dance defined by its rigid techniques and postures. Jazz evolved as a form adapting the techniques of classical ballet. And so did contemporary, which does follow its techniques but goes against its rigidity.

Our composition will present to you this evolution of dance through the decades in India and the west. One can see how these dance forms evolve through the same canvas- the canvas of life.
We portray that though all the dances break through the same canvas, each of them has their own colour, their own character and their own expression.

One can see how each dance develops from the other forming a chain, the connection of all dance forms with each other. Towards the end we present a celebration of life, a celebration of dance with all these forms coming together and forming what we call “THE DANCING CANVAS”.

This dance performance will take audience through a different experience of not only different dance styles on kala ghoda stage at the same time but through different human feelings potriated through this concept of rainbow. Each dance style from classical and folk to western dances would be performed by professionals in their respective field thus giving an authentic touch to the entire performance.
