We will be starting a Tango & Paso Doble Class at our Bandra class on Saturday, 31st October, 2009.

The Dances:

Paso Doble is a lively International Latin dance that is modeled after the sound, drama, and movement of the Spanish Bull fight. Paso Doble means “double step” in Spanish.

The International Style of Tango is the most passionate & powerful ballroom dance, characterized by big movements, dramatic gestures & soul-stirring music. Its unique flair is sure to strike a chord in every dance lover’s heart !

This class will start with the basics of both dances and advance towards movements and patterns that will improve your social dancing skills.

The Class:

Venue: St. Andrew’s College, St. Dominic Road, Bandra (W), Mumbai -50.
Days: Saturday & Sunday
Time: 6-7 p.m.
Starts: Saturday, 31st October, 2009.
Fees: Rs. 4000.
No. of sessions: 12 = 12 x 1 hour classes.
Duration: 1.5 months

No experience required for this class ….all are welcome !

Enrollment Instructions:
Enroll at 5.30 p.m. on 31st October at the class itself.
Enrollments will stay open for the first 3 classes.

*Please carry a recent passport-sized photograph of yourself.
*Full payment should be made by cash only on the 1st day of class.

Dress Code:
At our studio, we follow a semi-formal dress code which translates to:
No jeans, track pants, shorts, sneakers/keds, floaters/chappals.
For Gentlemen: Formal pants, shirt/t-shirt. Formal closed leather shoes, preferably with a thin sole.
For Ladies: Skirts/dresses (knee-length or shorter), formal pants, Capri pants, tights, shirt/t-shirt/blouse. Shoes should completely enclose the heel of your foot and have a low or high heel, as per your comfort.

We recommend that you purchase a pair of dance shoes that has a suede base which ensures smooth movement when you dance. You may purchase this at our studio itself.

Note:
Please carry a separate pair of shoes/dance shoes that should be worn only in the class so as to maintain the cleanliness of the class & prevent any damage to the floor.

Dress Code at St. Andrew’s College (Bandra Branch):
As per the college rules, students are NOT ALLOWED to enter or leave the college premises wearing the following:
Sleeveless tops, short/mini skirts, shorts.
You may change into your dance attire for the class in the changing room located in or closest to the Ground Floor Girls’ Common Room. And change back into your regular clothes once class is done, before leaving the college.

The Workshop

Freshly updated with a host of new dances from the U.S., Sandip Soparrkar will be conducting a fun-filled energetic workshop on the “West Coast Swing”.

Slower than the Jive and faster than the Rumba, the West Coast Swing hails from the Western Coast of the U.S. (currently the Official State Dance of California). It is characterized by the use of “compression and leverage”, a rubber-band-like movement between the partners that creates energy for multiple spins and fun passes.
More so than any other dance, movements here are created in relation to the sounds of the music, be they melodic, rhythmic, or vocal. These unique factors make it the quintessential  party dance !

Time: 7.30 to 9.30 p.m.
Open to: All.
Partner: If you don’t have a partner along, you will be paired up with someone at the workshop itself.
Fee: Rs. 500 per person.
Enrollments: Please enroll with your fees of Rs. 500 in cash only

On Tuesday May 19th, 2009, for the first time, Mumbai will participate in the 26th International Candle Light Memorial to express support for those living with HIV/AIDS in our city and around the world. It will be held at Shivaji Park, Dadar, from 8 p.m. onwards.

Choreographer Sandip Soparrkar and Supermodel Jesse Randhawa will be putting up a modern dance presentation. The dance revolves around a story of a couple, one of whom contracts HIV and how they deal with family and societal problems that arise subsequently. It depicts the theme of this year’s memorial which is “Together, We are the Solution”, emphasizing that we all hold major responsibilities as leaders and role models in seeking solutions to not only HIV as an epidemic in all its aspects, but also in addressing the underlying issues of HIV and AIDS which are of social, cultural, political and economic nature.

Organised by socialite Parmeshwar Godrej’s Heroes Project, the march will be led by Actors Hrithik Roshan & Nandita Das, National AIDS Control Organisation Head Dr Sujatha Rao, Industrialist Kumaramangalam Birla, Writer Shobhaa De and Dance-extraordinaires, Sandip Soparrkar & Jesse Randhawa.
