A year ago, Arts in Motion launched its MUSIC division with the endeavour to offer what is popularly known as a DRUM CIRCLE, by bringing together all who share a passion for music, whether amateurs or trained musicians. Over time we have presented artists from varying musical backgrounds so as to give a different experience every time. Our DRUM CIRLCES have steadily grown in popularity and its heartening to know that some of you look forward to the next and the next and the next!

We once again proudly present our next DRUM CIRCLE, this time with an internationally renowned African group called DRUM CAFE.

Participate in creating exuberant music from across the continent, even if you have never touched an instrument before!

After 3 hugely successful Drum Circles & an audience that cant seem to get enough, Arts in Motion once again presents, Drum Circle; this time with veteran drummer Varun Venkit of indo-rock band, Agnee.

To be held on Sunday, 15th Nov, 2.30 -4pm, at Arts in Motion Dance Studios.

Drum Circle is a very prosaic explanation of what Arts in Motion defines as ‘the circle of magic’!

Circle drumming involves a group of people informally sitting around a heap of unusual & varied musical instruments of South American origin, with one or more facilitators, who gently lead the group to create a basic beat. Picked up rather falteringly & clumsily at first & with jubilation & abandon later, individual expression, interpersonal interaction & collective energy are beaten into an unrelenting, pulsating rhythm which culminates into a crazy crescendo, a potent recipe for intoxication aimed straight for the gut, in an experience reminiscent of a yogi’s sudarshan kriya & pranayam all at once, to become a catharsis, a purification of the very soul.

An energizing & exhilarating cohesion, a healing & bonding journey into community connection, a guaranteed recipe for addiction, the Circle of Magic is clearly a-must-have-experience. Rest assured, you wont stop drumming!

Our circle of magic is open to anyone with the openness to experience something novel, unique and therapeutic. No prior musical experience is required.

Varun Venkit is a Masters graduate in Clinical Psychology, Pune University, Masters NLP Practitiooner and an experienced drummer currently playing the drums with the indo-rock outfit, Agnee. He has been associated with drumming and drum circles for over 6 years and counting. He has worked with people from various backgrounds using drums and music as a therapeutic intervention.

Drum Circle: Since time immemorial, drums or the ‘Shaman’s Horse’ has been used extensively for the purpose of healing (through rituals other metaphoric tools). However, it is only more recently that the therapeutic elements of group-drumming have been explored, with recent research studies beginning to provide an evidence base for considering drumming as a therapeutic intervention in its own right or as a part of other programmes. Based on current findings a new trend in corporate America and other countries all over is the employment of musical management consultants who build team spirit through drum workshops. Group drumming is a powerful music-making experience that is used as a therapeutic intervention for achieving health-oriented and group-oriented, non-musical goals. In a drum circle, participants experience both the creation of group rhythms and a sense of community.
